Panama paper scandal has marred Sharif family's image and suggestions were made about PM's complicity in corruption scandal. When the scandal first surfaced, Sharif family made some unwise moves in the backdrop of poor counsel by his aides. Efforts were made to clean Maryam's name (PM's daughter) from the paper because she has been trained by Nawaz sharif as her political heir. But these efforts were as miscalculated as the damage control by Washington with respect to Wikileaks scandal. But difference is that Washington did all this in the name of national security while the other did this for their personal reputation. Maryam already has considerable influence in controlling government policies as well as, she is looking after the social media team of PML-N. Maryam's brother hussain nawaz was interviewed by hamid mir of Geo and program was aired in january. Eight weeks later Hussein nawaz re-appeared in another interview with javed chaudhary. Hussain nawaz accepted to be the owner of park lane properties, which were named in panama papers as being controlled through offschore accounts. This event led to unearthing of a political upheavel by the opposition camp. Hussain nawaz defended his ownership and argued that luxury flats were bought after he got his share from the sale of a steel mill in Saudi Arabia in 2005-06. Although many Sharif family confidants of the past have stated that these properties were owned by PM back in 1990's. So there seems some grey areas in their details if we look at their statements to the media. Think tanks inside Sharif family believes that let the bygones be bygones. They have paid for all the crimes through a coup and persecution thereafter by the military dictator. PPP share same philosphy when it was in power back in 2008 even though NRO was thrown out by Supreme court. They also believed it was their right to take commercial advantages because of their sacrifices of the past. It will worsen the situation if public start protesting such misgivings by politicians, judges, generals and media persons. It will be horrific of such anger translate into violent extremism. It is high time Pakistan needs South African styled truth and reconciliation commission. All the stakeholders needs to come clean on their sins of the past and move on and give this country a better direction. Although when one wakes up to the reality and sees the environment, one feels its like an impossible task to achieve.
